OCCUPAZIONE DEL METROPOLITAN - COMUNICATO STAMPA

As precarious workers and entertainers, scientists and students on Tuesday January 18 after the organizational meeting at the Teatro Eliseo, we occupied the Metropolitan, the historic cinema in the heart of Rome, shouting "Hands off the culture."
Actors and authors of the audiovisual and theater technicians and workers, dancers and musicians, along with researchers and students but also to the representatives of FIADDA (non-profit organization for the rights of deaf people and their families), all playing together we marched through the streets of the capital as far as Via del Corso, where we entered the cinema to project The Great War as a tribute to Mario Monicelli, inviting passersby to come in and returning it to the public, at least for one night, the ; right to freely enjoy the art in the city center.
Cinema Metropolitan, one of the few to show films in their original language with subtitles and thus to promote multiculturalism and to provide an essential service to deaf people, would have had to close its doors by mid-January to move from a store owned by Berlusconi's Benetton, but the closure, even giving to the rich collections at Christmas, was brought forward to December 29, perhaps presaging the protests of workers and residents.
The symbolic gesture of employment, which saw the active solidarity of some parliamentarians and councilors, peacefully even though they suffered the threat of eviction and immediate intervention by the police. After a grueling negotiations, the choice of the meeting was to claim a temporary action and freely leave the cinema until the end of the projection, re-launching a series of upcoming blitz a protest that has lasted for months. Students, researchers, workers of the performing arts and audio, are linked by a precarious increasingly popular and are now, along with many other categories of workers and citizens, a vast fabric of social dissent. Given the weakness and the failure of substantial sectoral demands of recent times, is constructing a self-organized network of precarious and the entertainment and knowledge.
. La protesta, dunque, non si ferma, ma anzi allarga la sua rete, invitando to keep "hands down culture by" those who are implementing these cuts blind and indiscriminate, who kneel down hundreds of thousands of workers and stifle art, research and freedom of information. WORKERS AND WORKERS PERFORMING self-organized, knowledge, information
